Beachwood Canyon Drive is a beautiful curving road that gently ascends up into the Hollywood Hills, with the Sign framed down the middle the entire way. You'll have excellent site lines and plenty of photo opps as you drive north.
Along the way, you'll see homes formerly owned by Charlie Chaplin, Douglas Fairbanks and Norma Talmadge.
At the end of this drive, you'll pass through the original Hollywoodland Gates and enter a small village square known as Beachwood Village. Film buffs will note that the original Invasion of the Bodysnatchers (1956) staged its scary climax here. There's a small diner/coffee shop that makes a perfect stop for a snack, breakfast, or lunch and a neighborhood grocery for drinks and snacks.
Beyond this area, the Sign is obscured by trees and homes, the streets get small, twisty and confusing, and there is no direct access to the Sign, so we don't recommend going any farther. Also note that Beachwood runs through a residential neighborhood, so please be careful to keep noise and disruption to a minimum.
Nearby attractions include Griffith Park and Sunset Ranch Hollywood, which offers two hour sunset horse tours through the park and over into the Valley beyond the Hollywood Hills.
Beachwood Canyon drive is accessed off of Franklin Boulveard in Hollywood. Click our handy link at right to get a detailed map and driving directions from Google.
There is plenty of free and meter parking along the way, but be sure to read signs carefully as parking enforcement is extremely rigorous. Be sure not to block any driveways as local residents will be watching! |
