Hollywood Sign Trust Announces New Board of Trustee Member Brigid LaBonge
Bringing Decades of Experience including The Tom LaBonge Civic Project, Brigid Joins Community Leaders Appointed to Protect and Preserve the Hollywood Sign
June 17, 2026–Los Angeles–The Hollywood Sign Trust, the 501(c)3 nonprofit responsible for maintaining the Hollywood Sign and educating the public about its historical and cultural significance, today announced Brigid LaBonge has joined its Board of Trustees. Brigid is the founder and director of the Tom LaBonge Civic Project, a nonprofit she created with her two children to continue her husband’s legacy of public service and civic engagement in Los Angeles.
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce nominated and appointed seven of the members of the Board of Trustees, including Brigid LaBonge, while the other two Trustees are appointed by the Mayor of Los Angeles. The Trust’s leadership team also includes Jeff Zarrinnam, chair, Marty Shelton, vice-chair, Brian Lane, secretary, Jerry Neuman, treasurer, as well as Trustees: Andrea Conant (Chief of Staff Los Angeles City Councilmember Nithya Raman), Stefanie Smith (Acting Superintendent of Recreation and Parks Operation, Griffith Park), Darnell Tyler (Director of real Estate Planning & Community Relations, NBC Universal Global Real Estate), and Ed Tom (Hollywood Bowl’s former Director of Operations).
“The Trust brings together an exceptional group of community leaders who generously share their time, expertise, and passion to protect and preserve the Sign for generations to come, and we are delighted and honored to welcome Brigid LaBonge to this important mission,” said Jeff Zarrinnam, chair of the Trust.
Brigid LaBonge is a lifelong Angeleno, born and raised in the Altadena/Pasadena area. An artist, graphic designer, and community advocate, LaBonge attended Pasadena City College where she studied art, and later worked as a graphic designer for her family’s printing business. This experience in the field catapulted her into a long career with several print advertising firms, as well as product design for the Disney Company.
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce was commissioned to have the Hollywood Sign rebuilt in 1978. The Hollywood Sign Trust was created that same year to accomplish the express purpose of repairing, maintaining, refurbishing, protecting, restoring, and providing capital improvements to Hollywood’s most famous symbol and icon, The Hollywood Sign.
The Trust is also responsible for educating the world about the Sign’s historical importance, and its role in preserving and maintaining the image of Hollywood as the worldwide center of motion pictures and cinema arts. During its 40+ year history, the Trust has led a range of projects, including a major refurbishment in 2022 to prepare for the Sign’s 100th anniversary in 2023, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Sign throughout 2023, which also marked an historical first, a ‘digital twin’ of the Hollywood Sign that documents every visible square inch of the Sign, as well as the installation of a state-of-the-art security and surveillance system which has been expanded and improved numerous times.
The Trust is the official source for news and information about the Sign and maintains the Hollywood Sign website (www.hollywoodsign.org) and its social media platforms. In addition, it sponsors various events and projects with an eye toward maintaining Hollywood as a symbol of inspiration to filmmakers everywhere.
The Hollywood Sign was declared a Los Angeles Cultural Historical Monument No. 111 in 1973. And in 2023, to honor the Sign’s centennial year, CD4 Councilmember Nithya Raman, whose district includes the historic Hollywood Sign, partnered with the Hollywood Sign Trust (HST) to declare October 31, 2023 as Hollywood Sign Day in Los Angeles. Originally installed as a giant billboard for a real estate development (Hollywoodland) in 1923, today, it is a universal metaphor for the place, industry, lifestyle and aspiration known as Hollywood—and stands as one of the world’s best-known monuments.
