Los Angeles -- October 26, 2026

The Hollywood Sign Trust celebrates the third anniversary of Hollywood Sign Day on October 31, 2026.

The Hollywood Sign Trust is celebrating the third anniversary of Hollywood Sign Day on October 31, 2026, an event initiated by the Los Angeles City Council in 2023 to honour the iconic Hollywood Sign. The Trust aims to educate future generations about the Sign's cultural and historical significance and has created a Hollywood Sign Time Capsule to engage the public. This year, the Sign was highlighted in major events like the FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour and was illuminated for the first time in four years, underscoring its role as a symbol of the entertainment industry.

The continued celebration of Hollywood Sign Day reflects the enduring status of the Hollywood Sign as both a civic landmark and a global symbol of the entertainment industry. While the annual observance is largely ceremonial, it highlights the efforts of local organisations and city officials to preserve and promote one of Los Angeles’ most recognised icons, particularly as the city prepares to host major international events in the coming years.

For tourism and community engagement, initiatives like the Hollywood Sign Time Capsule and associated activities serve to reinforce the Sign’s cultural relevance and its role in shaping the city’s identity. These efforts are designed to attract both residents and visitors, encouraging participation in the city’s heritage and supporting the broader tourism sector, which remains a significant contributor to the local economy.

This year’s anniversary coincides with a period of heightened global attention on Los Angeles, following the city’s hosting of World Cup events and ahead of the Super Bowl and Olympics. Such occasions are likely to drive increased visitor numbers and international media coverage, giving added prominence to the Hollywood Sign and related community initiatives.

The observance began on October 31, 2023, when the Los Angeles City Council unanimously adopted a resolution led by Councilmember Nithya Raman, whose District 4 includes the Hollywood Sign. The mayor, city attorney, city controller, and every other elected City of Los Angeles official also signed a proclamation certificate, available in the Hollywood Digital Time Capsule, honoring the Sign as the most well-known monument in the city and the global symbol of the entertainment industry.

The Hollywood Sign Trust remains dedicated to educating future generations about the Sign’s historical and cultural significance. Its Hollywood Sign Time Capsule, now marking its second anniversary, invites people to share stories, fan mail, and photographs while connecting with a vibrant community and exploring the Sign’s history and future.

“We are honored to celebrate this third anniversary with the City of Los Angeles and people around the world who share a personal connection to the Hollywood Sign,” said Jeff Zarrinnam, chair of the Hollywood Sign Trust. “This has been a historic year for the Sign. We hosted the launch of the North American FIFA World Cup™ Trophy Tour, and the Sign took center stage in America250 coverage as a national symbol. Last month, it was illuminated for the first time in four years to celebrate the launch of Universal Studios Hollywood’s ‘Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift’ roller coaster. With the Super Bowl and the Olympics ahead, we look forward to making more history and connecting fans more closely with Hollywood and the Sign through our Time Capsule.”

“Three years in, Hollywood Sign Day has become a chance to celebrate something Angelenos have always known: the Sign belongs to all of us,” said Councilmember Nithya Raman, Council District 4. “This year, as Los Angeles welcomed fans from around the world for the World Cup, the Sign was there to greet them, a reminder of a city that dreams big and shows up for one another. It’s an honor to represent the neighborhoods that surround this landmark, and we’ll keep working to care for the Sign, Griffith Park, and the communities around them so they can be enjoyed for generations to come.”

Since 2024, the Hollywood Sign Time Capsule has brought people together to share their stories and connections to the Sign from across the globe, along with historic and personal photos and artwork, unique contests, celebrity fan mail, and more across its social media channels (Instagram, Facebook). This year, the Capsule debuted the Sign-ie Awards, recognizing outstanding appearances by the Hollywood Sign in motion pictures, television programs, reality shows, animated series, and other categories.

“For over a century, the Hollywood Sign has been a global icon that invites visitors from around the globe to experience the magic of the world’s entertainment capital,” said Adam Burke, President & CEO of Los Angeles Tourism. “That creativity, innovation, and storytelling infuses every aspect of a trip to our City of Angels, and we invite guests to go deeper to explore the diverse, vibrant neighborhoods that truly offer something for everyone. One of the biggest emerging traveler trends is ‘set-jetting,’ allowing movie and television fans to see where some of their favorite productions were filmed. From world class attractions to unparalleled entertainment options, our dynamic culinary community, and so much more, we can’t wait to roll out the red carpet for you!”
