Uncovering Hollywood's Celebrity Hangouts

Looking for cool things to do in downtown LA? There are plenty of them, but on your next visit, why not try something different? Instead of sticking to the tourist-ridden areas, dive in and live like a local. Here's our guide to celebrity hangouts in Hollywood.

Erewhon Market

Everyone talks about Whole Foods, but you're more likely to find the stars hanging out at Erewhon Market in LA. This chain has locations in Santa Monica and Venice, posh Beverly Hills, focusing on organic, health-conscious options. That makes it a favorite for celebs such as Miley Cyrus, Megan Fox, and Leonardo DiCaprio. Even better: You can sip on an oxidant-rich kombucha while you watch for famous faces.

Dolby Theatre

Dolby Theatre

This might be a more obvious pick, but the former Kodak Theatre is a must-see for movie fans. Take a behind-the-scenes tour of the building that hosts the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show—and of course, the Academy Awards. If you visit during February or March, you might even be able to catch a glimpse of this glitzy event.

The Grove

In the mood for a little retail therapy? You'll need big bucks to drop by the Grove, but it's an experience you'll always remember. For a surefire sighting, attend a celebrity book signing and leave with an amazing souvenir to amuse you on the plane ride home. Browse through the various stores, take in a movie, and remember to hop aboard the vintage tram trolley for a leisurely tour.

Soho House

Soho House

Full disclosure: Unless you're acquainted with a member or are one yourself, you won't be able to access the Soho House, one of Hollywood's most exclusive celebrity hangouts. But if you score a visit inside, you'll be rewarded with a luxe experience that will make you feel like a star in your own right. Stroll through the rooftop gardens, visit the screening room, or sip on a cocktail while rubbing elbows with Hollywood's finest.

The Ivy

Did you ever see the movie Get Shorty? If so, you're bound to recognize this West Hollywood hangout featured in the 1995 John Travolta vehicle. Even if you haven't seen the film, the spot is worth a visit. The paparazzi agree as they're usually parked across the road attempting to get shots of stars like Jennifer Aniston and George Clooney. The food, focusing on California cuisine, is exquisite, but the atmosphere is down-to-earth.

Hancock Park

If you're a Hollywood Golden Age fan, visit this neighborhood west of downtown LA. Although many modern celebs have shifted toward Malibu and other beach-oriented regions, this spot was once home to Clark Gable, Howard Hughes, and Mae West. Today, you might spot George Takei of Star Trek, Jake Gyllenhaal, or Antonio Banderas roaming around.

Urth Caffe

When you're in the mood for a matcha latte or a cup of organic java, visit the Melrose branch of this chain. Not only is it a popular hangout for stars like Demi Lovato and Melanie Griffith, it's one of the primary filming locations for HBO's smash hit Entourage.

That's A Wrap

There are plenty of other celebrity hangouts in Hollywood, but once you visit a couple of these, you might get the scuttlebutt on a few more. Chat with the people you meet, especially the restaurant servers and clerks. Above all, have fun and try to blend in.
